Weekly Commentary (Updated: June 20, 2023): HBO’s “Succession” led the tally for all shows last year and could likely do it again with this fourth and final season, thanks to the Creative Arts categories.
There are multiple episodes in the running from top-rated series. The HBO drama has a good shot at landing in many categories, which could make it the most nominated show of the year. That’s if Netflix’s “Dahmer: Monster – The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” doesn’t tack on many tech noms, which it’s likely to do.
Other contenders for the most nominated shows include HBO’s “House of the Dragon” and its counterpart “The Last of Us,” which have gorgeous cinematography, editing and production elements that will appeal to the TV Academy.
Don’t count out Prime Video’s “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” which could get “farewell” checkboxes, pushing it near 20 (or even more) noms.
On the network side, expect HBO or Netflix to lead the tally, although (at the moment), it looks like HBO could have the overall lead thanks to lots of major acting noms coming their way.
There are 77 categories of predictions listed below. Look at them all, and respect the artisans that brought your favorite shows to life this past year. And trust me when I say there are more worthy contenders in all the races than the ones that are listed.
