‘The White Lotus’ Season 3 Will Be ‘Supersized,’ Says Mike White
Mike White is ready to travel to the next destination of “The White Lotus,” calling the forthcoming third season “longer, bigger, crazier” in a recent interview with EW.
“It’s going to be a supersized ‘White Lotus,’” White said. “It’s going to be longer, bigger, crazier. I don’t know what people will think, but I am super excited, so at least for my own barometer, that’s a good thing … I’m super excited about the content of the season.”
The “White Lotus” creator also shared an update on the development of Season 3, which likely won’t be ready until 2025 due to both the writers strike and the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, HBO and Max chairman/CEO Casey Bloys previously revealed.
“I’m seriously finishing scripts,” White said. “Still waiting to be able to cast. If the SAG strike isn’t resolved soon, then yeah, we’d have to push again because the show has a new cast every season, so there’s lots of parts to cast … I’m more than eager to get going.”
Variety exclusively reported that Season 3 will take place in Thailand, followed by Natasha Rothwell’s return as Belinda from Season 1. HBO’s hit anthology series was in the early stages of prepping for the third season when the writers strike forced the new season to shut down.
“The first season kind of highlighted money, and then the second season is sex,” White said in a clip pegged at the end of the Season 2 finale. “I think the third season would be maybe a satirical and funny look at death and Eastern religion and spirituality. It feels like it could be a rich tapestry to do another round at White Lotus.”
